The trade deadline is the most bettable stretch of the baseball calendar, and it has nothing to do with picking winners of the deadline.
It's about lag. A team adds two relievers and the run-scoring environment against them changes immediately — but perception takes a week or two to adjust. Same in reverse: a seller who ships their closer is a different team the next night, and the number often doesn't reflect it right away.
Where I look first
- Bullpens. Late-inning quality is the biggest hidden driver of run lines.
- Sellers. Motivation is real, but the roster change matters more.
- Rotation slots. A traded starter means a spot-start somewhere — often underpriced.
None of this needs a hot take. It just needs you to read a transaction wire before the market does.
